Newsletter: Fathers Day 09
Fathers day is almost upon us. For many it is an opportunity to give the person who's supported us through so much our attention and love. I lost my father 16 years ago and think about him every single day.
One of my favorite rituals I have, even though he isn't physically here, is to write a list of all the things I felt were awesome about him. From his goofy smile to his diplomatic nature. It doesn't matter how big or small it is, I put it all down on paper. I then write next to it how it has helped me in my life.
For example, Dad laughed all the time. - It has helped me find the funny things in life and NEVER take myself to seriously.
OR, He loved to learn new things. - I am always looking for something new and exciting to learn and incorporate into my life.
You get the picture :) If dad was around, I would either give him this list or share it with him. I have found that when you tell people you love how they've positively affected you, there is no greater gift.
If you have a moment before father's day, perhaps you can do this exercise for your father. And if your father has passed on, it will be a sweet reminder of the legacy he left behind in you. If you have children, share it with them. They'll be delighted to learn that they have their grandfathers positive attributes.
With hugs
