Newsletter:Growing July 08
As a coach I often hear my wonderful clients tell me that things aren't going fast enough. They've worked hard and can't understand why things aren't falling together or happening. I recently took my niece to six flags. The drive to the park consisted of her wanting to ride the biggest, fastest, scariest looking roller coasters. She felt that she was ready, after all she had grown a few inches and she was going to the 7th grade. She DID pick some BIG scary coasters. We tried the first one and my niece loved it. We went to the next one and we both looked at each other in absolute fear. I don't know who was talking who out of it!I realized as I watched my niece, that in 2 years since our last theme park adventure, she had grown a lot. Her choices in rides had definitely changed. They were much faster, higher and dangerous looking. Yet, she still had a little bit more to go to reach the next level. There would constantly be growth in her life and that was a good thing. She has something to look forward to for her next visit. Before we left she looked at me with serious eyes and intent and said, "Next time I'm visiting, I'll be ready for the SCARY ones." I agreed, she will be ready. But right now she isn't. When you're feeling impatient with yourself, remember that you have all the time in the world to get it right. If the roller coasters seems to scary right now, take your time, you will grow into it by learning more. After all, it takes 22 months for an elephant to be born and 7 years for a bamboo plant to emerge out of the soil. But once they do, one bamboo can create a whole forest. One elephant can take the forest down!
