Newsletter:Holiday fun. 09
Thanksgiving is around the corner and so starts the holiday season. There are parties to go to, presents to buy, cards to be written, family to be seen and fed. You can look at this time as stressful or make it as fun as possible. Children understand this time as a time for fun and lightness. The lights, the smells, the sounds are all about joy.
As adults, we seem to forget this. The days contain long lists of things that must be done rather than opportunities to just have good old fun.
One of my best friends still bakes like crazy although her kids are teenagers. I asked her why, as they really aren't into that anymore. She thought carefully about it and realized that it was no longer fun for her. It was another chore. I suggested she focus on what brings her delight and let go of things that no longer feel good.
I personally put up lights in my home and office way before Christmas because it makes me feel good. I go away with my husband on vacation because it helps us keep the stress away. I love watching The Christmas Carol as a reminder that people can change. And I usually have friends staying over and us chatting late into the night, hopefully with some hot chocolate.
This holiday season check in an see if what you're doing really brings you joy or is just complicating your life? What can you let go of and what can you add in? Do you need to ask for help or take a break from hosting? What do YOU need to make this a light experience? Do you need to start a holiday practice that works for you?
There is fun in the air if we allow it to be. If we let go and do what feels right to us,
Enjoy the holidays!

May your stuffing be tasty
May your turkey plump,
May your potatoes and gravy
Have nary a lump.
May your yams be delicious
And your pies take the prize,
And may your Thanksgiving dinner
Stay off your thighs!
