Newsletter Resistance: July 08
I took my family whale watching recently. It's such a spectacular event each time I go. We were lucky to see 10+ whales on our trip. As I was watching them glide in the water effortlessly, I noticed how little resistance they had to their environment. Even when the boat was in front of them, they simply took a breath and went under the boat. It made me think about the resistances I've noticed over the years with myself and my clients. How they can create so much unnecessary suffering and delay in reaching our goals. The good news is that humans have the capacity to change and learn. Below are the 7 resistances I've noticed. See how many comes up inside of you.
- You have no idea where you're headed. The whales had a clear destination, goal in mind and they moved consistently towards the goal. As a human being, if you don't know what the point of all of this is, you will feel empty.
- You focus on the past. You've probably suffered through trauma, pain and it's still unresolved, stuck in yourbody and you've not healed it. Humpback whales necks are fused so they can't turn their neck left or right. They must keep their focus ahead of them.
- You believed what your parents, society told you about how to live your life. You are living out those expectations without challenging them. Whales don't perform on will. Come out when we demand it. They come to the surface when it's right for them and suits THEIR needs.
- You haven't examined your beliefs about you, the world, or other people. Some beliefs are useful to you. The ones that aren't, you're not aware or conscious of, so you keep repeating patterns and behaviors. Whales move where it benefits them the most. They move around to reach their goals of nourishment.
- You fear failure and don't act or follow through. If a whale doesn't move, it doesn't eat. It must take action.
- You only use 4% of your conscious mind. 96% is in your unconscious mind. You're using very little of the tool and skills you were born with. Whales must use ALL their abilities to survive. Especially now in the ever changing environment we've created.
- Finally, you're waiting for everything to be okay before you make changes. If a whale did that, it wouldn't survive.
How well did you do?
